Friday Night Gameday Round-Up: Week 8


STERLING ,VA - With weather forcing many games to move to Saturday, only a handful of contests played on Friday night. The marquee match-up featured Sherando traveling to James Wood in a crucial Northwestern District match-up. The Warriors prevailed 28-13 behind 3 touchdown runs from Markeith Brisco and improved to 8-0 on the season. Brisco's 3rd quarter touchdown run gave Sherando a 21-13 lead, but the Warriors were able to pull away when they recovered the kickoff after it bounced off a James Wood player on the return team. Brisco added his 3rd touchdown of the night from a yard out and Sherando left the rain soaked field a winner and still tied for first place in the Northwestern District with Millbrook. Millbrook defeated Handley 9-0 to improve to 7-1 on the season and stay in contention for a Northwestern District title at the end of the year. The Pioneers face Sherando on November 9th.

Bugsy Goes Crazy:
Chantilly's Bugsy Urrutia put together two impressive touchdown runs to help the Chargers improve to 7-1 on the season with a 42-7 win over Fairfax. Urrutia's 92 yard run in the second half put the Rebels away for good and Chantilly never looked back. Quarterback Austin Decker added a 2-yard touchdown and fullback Antonio Cross also scored in the win.

Head West Young Man!
Liberty's Dustin West propelled the Eagles to a 7-0 win over Osbourn Park on Friday night in Bealeton. The game was scoreless for nearly the entire game, but West broke free late in the contest to spark the Eagles to victory. With the win, Liberty improved to 4-3 and 3-1 in the Cedar Run district.....

Lightning and Thunder!
The Big Man upstairs provided the lightning and Westfield's Steve Tabot provided the thunder in a 34-0 win over Herndon. The Bulldogs scored the game's first 27 points behind two touchdown passes from Mike Glennon to receivers Johnny Pickett and David Kruchko respectively. On the first play of the second half, Tabot raced 64 yards for the game's final score as the contest was called with 17 seconds left in the 3rd quarter due to lightning. With the win, Westfield improved to 8-0 on the season and is in firm control of their destiny in the Concorde District......

Put Up or Shut-Up Saturday:
With a full schedule slated for Saturday due to the weather, the Gameday Radio Network will broadcast three of the biggest games in the state with Oakton traveling to Robinson, Briar Woods traveling to Park View, and Madison traveling to Stone Bridge. Broad Run plays their homecoming game against Loudoun County starting at 1pm and several other big games will be updated during the afternoon on the Paintworx Scoreboard.
