Brisco's 4TD's Lead Warriors To 61-0 Win

STEPHENS CITY, VA -- The Sherando Warriors improved to 7-0 on the season by defeating the Skyline Hawks 61-0 in front of a packed house. Sherando's running game accounted for seven of the Warrior's eight touchdowns on the day. Senior Markeith Briscoe crossed the goal line four times with runs of 3, 1, 9, and 28 yards. Briscoe continues to have a great senior season and has asserted himself as the Warriors' feature back.
Senior David Hoopengarner also had a nice day running for two scores in a third quarter that saw Sherando score five times. Hoopengarner's first touchdown came from 4 yards out and his second score came late in the third, this time for 9 yards away. Sophomore running back Roger Smith, Jr. capped off the scoring for the Warriors with a 1 yard run late in the 4th quarter.
The Warriors went into the half up 19-0, as Skyline's defense played extremely well in the first half and had an opportunity to get on the board after Ross Metheny threw an interception to Nathaniel White. White came down with the ball after it was tipped at the line by a Skyline defender. White looked to have a touchdown all but wrapped up, but Metheny came streaking down the field and tackled White inside the Sherando 20, saving a potential touchdown.
Skyline was unable to score off of the turnover, and had a hard time getting much going on offense for the rest of the afternoon. Coach Heath Gilbert has the Hawks off to an impressive first season having already won 3 games. The Hawks are now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Northwestern District.
Sherando travels to James Wood next Friday night in another key game for the Warriors. James Wood is having a great season, their only loss coming to a solid Millbrook team. James Wood's head coach, Walter Barr, is familiar with Sherando as he coached the Warriors from 1994 to 1997 and compiled a very good 38-13 record. This will be one of the best match-ups in the area next week, and you can catch the action right here on www.GamedayMagazine.com and The Gameday Radio Network.
