Barlow, Brisco Lead Warriors Past Central 49-6

WOODSTOCK, VA--It was the arm of Ross Metheny that helped the Sherando Warriors (6-0 / 3-0) to an impressive win Friday night against the host Central Falcons (0-6 / 0-3) 49-6. Metheny threw just 6 passes on the night completing 4 of them for touchdowns. Metheny completed touchdown passes of 69, 50, 23, and 9 yards on the evening to three different receivers. Brian Barlow was the recipient of the first two passes, Derek Crosen caught the 3rd, and Drew Simpson hauled in the 4th and final touchdown of the evening from Metheny.
The 1st quarter saw the Central Falcons control the ball for over 9 minutes. The Falcons' opening drive stalled and Sherando took over at their own 23 yard line. Just before the end of the quarter Ross Metheny was picked off by Thomas Cooper. The quarter ended scoreless and stayed that way until almost 7 minutes into the 2nd quarter.
Sherando took over with about 9 minutes to go in the 1st half and Ross Metheny connected with Brian Barlow for the first score of the evening from 69 yards out. On the Warriors next possession Metheny again found Barlow for another touchdown pass; this time from 50 yards away to give Sherando a 14-0 lead. After a Nick Merchant interception return down to the Central 2 yard line it was up to Markeith Briscoe to find the end zone and make the score 21-0 in favor of the Warriors. With just over 2 minutes to go in the half Derek Crosen lined up at the fullback position and slipped out on a fade pattern and Metheny found him for a 23 yard touchdown pass to end the scoring in the first half.
Sherando came out of the locker room in the 3rd quarter and kept the momentum in their favor as Markeith Briscoe gained over 100 yards in the 3rd quarter alone. Briscoe got most of his yards in the quarter from 2 long touchdown runs. The first was from 53 yards and the second was from 65 yards. The 3rd quarter ended with the score 42-0 in favor of the Warriors, who came into the night averaging over 37 points per game.
The Central Falcons finally found the end zone late in the game as Derek Copenhaver found the goal line from 5 yards out ending the game with the final score of 49-6. Friday was another impressive performance on both sides of the football for Sherando as the starting defense pitched another near shutout. In 6 games this season Sherando has only given up double digit points once (Handley).
Sherando will travel to Skyline next Saturday afternoon. The game can be heard on The Gameday Radio Network live at 12:45pm with kickoff scheduled for 1:00pm. Be sure to tune into "The Warrior Zone" with Coach Bill Hall this week worldwide, online at www.GamedayMagazine.com
