Urrutia, Pace, Lead Chargers To 42-7 Victory

CHANTILLY, VA - The Chantilly Chargers breezed by the Washington & Lee Generals with a 42-7 victory. The Chargers scored the first 42 points and held the Generals without a touchdown until late in the 4th quarter.
Senior running back Bugsy Urrutia got the scoring started early for the Chargers with a 90 yard kick-off return touchdown just 12 seconds into the game.
That return was foretelling of what was to be a long night for the Generals.
Junior Torrian Pace followed up Urrutia's long run with one of his own; a 98 yard dash later in the 1st quarter.
Antonio Cross became the Charger's third running back to score in the first half with a 20 yard run. Cross's score made the score 21-0 in favor of the Chargers.
Quarterback Austin Decker was once again able to lead the Chargers without having a big passing game. His only score came in the 2nd quarter on a 44 yard throw to senior wide receiver Chris Gentile.
Charger head coach Mike Lalli said senior linebacker Mike Quigg is the key piece of the puzzle for the Charger defense.
"He's [Quigg's] showed the most leadership on the team this year," Lalli said.
Junior wide receiver and linebacker Steve Gombos had a break-out game. Gombos blocked two of the General's punts, one of which junior Kevin McGrath returned for a touchdown.
The Chargers went into the half with a comfortable 35-0 lead.
No later had the second half started then when the Chargers got in the end zone again; Cross continued the Charger's dominance of the Generals with a 2 yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
The only General touchdown was late in the fourth quarter on a 2 yard pass from quarterback Alex Wicks to wide receiver Darryl Carpenter.
Although the Chargers came away with a victory, they also came away with an injury to a key player. Junior Max Jeffrey suffered a knee injury in the second half.
The 2-0 start to the season is reminiscent of the Charger's recent success. The Chargers were the Northern Region champions in 2006.
Lalli also said Quigg is one of the most football-smart players on the team.
"He's very intelligent and he uses instinct," Lalli said. "He has a lot of football knowledge."
