Metheny's 240yds 2TD's Lead Warriors To Romp

HEDGESVILLE, WV--The Sherando Warriors (3-0) had their best offensive night of the young 2007 season against the Hedgesville Eagles (1-3). On the night the Warriors racked up over 500 total yards of offense and saw 6 different players score touchdowns during the course of the game.

The first quarter was quiet on both sides of the field as neither team could find the end zone, or seem to hold onto the football in the rainy conditions. In the quarter Sherando fumbled the ball three times but was able to recover all of them. As the 2nd quarter began so did the Sherando offense. Ross Metheny scrambled out of the pocket and scored from 33 yards out to make the score 7-0 in favor of Sherando. The Eagles did let the initial score bother them for too long as they answered on a Zac Clopper 1 yard run to even the score at 7 a piece. Markeith Briscoe continued his hot play scoring from 15 yards out toward the end of the half. Briscoe was injured on the play and did not see anymore action in the game. At the end of the 1st half Sherando had built a 21-7 lead.

The Warriors came out of the locker room on a mission. Ross Metheny hooked up with Brian Barlow from 51 yards out and followed that with another touchdown pass of 60 yards to Ryan Witt on back-to-back possessions. The 3rd quarter ended with Sherando on top by the score of 35-7. The 4th quarter saw Coach Bill Hall play most of his second team players to allow them some game experience. Sophomore running back Roger Smith, Jr. took full advantage of his opportunity to play in the 4th quarter, gaining 117 yards and 2 touchdowns to end the game as the Warriors leading rusher. A safety late in the 4th quarter pushed the score to 54-7 in favor of the Sherando Warriors.

Sherando will play at Warren County next Friday night in their first Northwestern District game of the 2007 season. The game can be heard live, worldwide online at www.GamedayMagazine.com on The Gameday Radio Network.

The Chick-Fil-A Player of the Game was Ross Metheny of the Sherando Warriors. Metheny threw for over 240 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also rushing for a score in the victory.
