Gameday Notebook: Week 4 (Loudoun)

Gameday Rewind...
With 3 weeks under the belts of most area football programs, non-league games are about at an end, and this week starts the push towards all important District play. Some teams are getting stronger, and seem to be ready to make a charge towards their respective crowns, while others are still finding their way. The Park View Patriots saw yet another big test this past Friday, as they hosted the Handley Judges, and prolific QB J.J. Dorsey. With the offense putting up very good numbers so far in the early season, the question this night would be how the Patriot defense would contain the high powered Judges, and Dorsey's 100 plus passing average per game, and equal running ability. On a rain soaked night, Dorsey was able to amass 199 yards passing and a touchdown, along with one rushing TD. But Park View "D" was able to clamp down late in the game, creating a key turnover, and seal the 34-20 home victory.
In Ashburn, Stone Bridge was able to bounce back from a disappointing loss the week before (at Robinson), and roll to a 35-0 drubbing of the Marsall Statesmen, behind a stingy defense, and strong running performance by Jerron Gouveia. In Sterling, the Titans fell victim to mistakes and key turnovers, and fell to Millbrook, 34-22, while the Loudoun County Raiders dropped to 0-3, losing to James Wood, 41-8.
Rolling Along...
The Briar Woods Falcons continued their undefeated run by muscling up, and handing Manassas Park the 26-6 loss in the Broadlands Friday night. QB Alex Munro showed he is one of the top signal callers in the area, with his 159 yard performance, on 14-22 passing, and 3 TD's.
The Thrill Of Victory, and the Agony Of Defeat.....
In a wild game in Prince William County, the Heritage Pride escaped with a closing minute, come-from-behind, 29-26 victory over Brentsville. With just over 2 minutes to go in the game, Pride PK Josh Thiel kicked a 37 yard field goal to take a 22-20 lead. On the ensuing kick-off, Brentsville's Justin Donnelly took it to the house, giving the visiting team the lead back, at 26-22. With the air seemingly out of the Pride balloon, Nick Cadwell would pump it all back up, when he took the Brentsville kick-off 82 yards to the other end zone, and the Pride escaped with the thrilling victory.
A Tale Of 2 Halves.....
The Potomac Falls Panthers fell victim Friday night to the old adage....."You Gotta Play All 4 Quarters to Be Successful," as they squander a 21-20 halftime lead, and fall to Jefferson (WV), 42-21. Don't blame the effort, however, as these Panthers still have several key players who play on both sides of the football. A tough task early in the season, and especially against a very tough Cougar team.
