Dominion Falls In Clash Of Titans, 40-20

(Game Recap Provided By Dominion Gameday Insider)

In a clash of 2 Titans programs in Maryland Thursday night, Tuscarora jumped out to a 20-7 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated Dominion, 40-20, in the home opener for the MD school. THS Senior QB John Kelly ran for 3 scores and threw an 86 yard touchdown pass to lead his Titans (1-2).

With Tuscarora having only amassed 6 total points in 2 previous games, hopes were high for Dominion to get back on the winning track on this night. The game seemed to start well for the Sterling team, as they appeared to draw first blood on a 30 yard TD pass from Geoff McCowat to Todd Lancaster. However the effort was negated due to a holding penalty, and the DHS Titans would not recover.

In the 2nd quarter, Kelly hit Jakrie Jackson on a slant pattern for the 86 yard pass\run score at 8:57 in the 1st half. Kelly then scored on a 6 yard scamper 2 minutes later. In both cases the extra point attempts were no good. Later in the 2nd, Lancaster picked off a Kelly pass and Dominion took possession at the THS 16. Lancaster completed the drive by hitting freshman WB Deondre Reaves on a 2 yard TD pass to close the gap to 12-7 with 2:17 remaining in the half.

On the ensuing kick-off, Dominion attempted the onside kick, but it was controlled by THS at the 48 yard
line. Dominic Clarke capped a 10 play drive by scoring from 6 yards out with 17 seconds remaining in the half. The 3rd quarter was all THS as they added 3 more scores. Dominion finally came alive in the 4th quarter when McCowat completed a sustained DHS drive, tossing a 5 yard scoring strike to Ben Dickerson. Reaves rounded out the scoring for the evening when he broke free for an 80 yard touchdown run, making the final score 40-20.

Todd Lancaster had an outstanding evening for Dominion, throwing one touchdown pass and intercepting 2 THS balls. DeAndre Reaves led all rushers with 178 yards on 20 carries. Tuscarora's Dominic Clarke and John Kelly rushed for 123 and 122 yards, respectively.

Dominion (1-2) will try to get back on track next Friday night, as they open Dulles District play at Freedom.
