Defense Pitches Shutout for Warriors in 7-0 Win

(STEPHENS CITY, VA) - The Sherando Warriors (1-0; 0-0) did not look like the team that went undefeated in the 2006 regular season. Despite struggling, the Warriors slipped pass the Jefferson Cougars (0-1; 0-0) 7-0 at Arrowhead Stadium Friday night. The lone highlight from the evening was a Ross Metheny to Derek Crosen touchdown pass that covered 65 yards with only 27 seconds remaining in the 1st half.
Both teams started slowly in the first half with turnovers ending threats for both the Warriors and the Cougars throughout the half. After the Sherando defense made an impressive stand with just over a minute left in the first half, junior Ross Metheny led a 4 play drive that resulted in the lone score on the night just before the end of the half.
The Jefferson Cougars came out of the locker room to start the 3rd quarter and again threatened the Warriors but fell short on an attempted 4th down play. Ross Metheny could not seem to find his touch through the air on this evening, throwing 3 interceptions to the Cougar defense. Despite Metheny's off-night the Shernado Warrior defense, led by Joey Christine and Brian Barlow, held the Cougar offense in check and out of the end zone throughout the second half to preserve the win for Coach Bill Hall and the rest of the Sherando Warriors.
The Sherando Warriors will take on Musselman, WV September 7th at Arrowhead Stadium in a game that can be heard on The Gameday Radio Network exclusively online at www.GamedayMagazine.com
