Three Hampton Roads Stars Drafted by NFL
Granby grad Levi Brown goes 5th overall to Arizona Cardinals
Norfolk native and former Granby star, Levi Brown will now be battling in the trenches for the Arizona Cardinals after the team made Brown the 5th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. The former Penn State standout is a 6-foot-5, 328-pound lineman who the Cardinals believe will make an immediate contribution to a developing young nucleus of players.
First Colonial grad, and former Beach District defensive player of the year, Aaron Rouse went to the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round as the 89th overall player selected. The 6-foot-4, 221-pound former Virginia Tech safety will look to become an impact player at the next level.
Marvin Mitchell, a former Lake Taylor Titan, was drafted in the 7th round by the New Orleans Saints. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker hopes to follow a successful career as a Tennessee Volunteer into the NFL.
Princess Anne should have no trouble retaining top spot in Beach District this week
After throttling Ocean Lakes 13-3 last week in the Beach district's biggest game of the season thus far, the Cavaliers have Green Run (0-10 in district), and Landstown (1-9) this week. Princess Anne (9-1) remains the top team in the Region, along with maintaining a half game district lead over pre-season favorite Cox (9-2), who stand as the Cavalier's only blemish on the season. The Falcons may have started off just 2-2 in district play, but they seem to have shaken off the early season rust and the weight of high expectations with 6 straight district wins including the 5-0 win over Princess Anne. Cox travels to First Colonial (7-4) this week to play the suddenly resurgent Patriots who have won 6 of 7 district games after losing three straight early in the season. State semifinalist the past 2 seasons, First Colonial looks to avenge a 8-6 defeat at the hands of the Falcons from march 30th.
Ocean Lakes sits a game behind Cox in third place with a 7-2 district mark. Kempsville is in fourth at 8-3, and First Colonial is still in the mix at 7-4.
