Conlon's Blast Helps Warhawks Pound Bulldogs

The Stone Bridge Bulldogs (9-5, 5-3) gave the Madison Warhawks (12-1, 8-0) all they could handle in the Liberty district opener back in March. On a pleasant Saturday evening in Vienna, things couldn't have been more different than the opener. The Warhawks banged out 10 hits, including a 3 run HR by Rich Conlon and a solo shot by Brian Smith as Madison won going away 10-1.
The Bulldogs had several threats, but couldn't get the big hit when they needed it. Their sole run was scored in the third inning when Jr 2B Collin Pearson lined a one out single to right. Soph LF Johnny Bladel legged out an infield single, putting runners on first and second. Jr SS Mike Stancik tried to sneak a grounder through the hole, but Conlon made a nice play and was able to force out Bladel at second. Jr CF Jeron Gouveia then took a 1-0 pitch right up the box for an RBI single, plating Pearson. But that was it for the Bulldogs.
Besides the 3 hits mentioned above, Jr C Brian Wheaton singled in the second and Jr RF Matt Irwin stroked a double down the left field line in the fourth.
Stone Bridge had a rough night on the mound. Besides the 10 hits, they walked 3 Warhawk hitters and hit 3 others as well.
Hopefully, the young Dawgs can put this one behind them and get back to their winning ways. Stone Bridge is on the road again this Tuesday, April 24 as they head over to Marshall to take on the Statesmen. First pitch is set for 6:30PM.
