Bayside Leaper Has a Blast Indoors

Bayside senior Courtney Smith has been on the outdoor track team since she was a freshman, but this season she tried out indoor track for the first time, and has enjoyed the experience.
"I love it. I wish had started doing indoor sooner."
Not only has she had a great time, but she has excelled as well. At the Beach District meet she placed first in the long jump, second in the triple jump, third in shot put, and fourth in the high jump; all good enough to qualify her for regionals. She also pre-qualified for states in the long jump with a personal best of 17' 9" earlier in the season. (The state qualifying distance is 17' 7.5").
In addition to her accolades on the track, Smith is a varsity cheerleader during football and basketball season. On campus, she plays a large role in student government and carries a 3.05 GPA. While it may seem that her plate is full, she still finds time to volunteer at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and is a certified EMT.
After this season she will continue running at the collegiate level, and she has already been accepted by Clemson and George Mason. She plans on studying forensic science on a chemistry track.
