Recruiting Week: Chew Headed To Syracuse

Van Chew is headed to Syracuse this fall.
As part of GamedayMagazine.com's "Recruiting Week" feature, today we will take a look at the latest Centreville football player to sign with Syracuse University, wide out Van Chew.
When Centreville football standout Van Chew steps on campus at Syracuse University in the fall, he will become the fourth former Wildcat in as many years to play for the Orange.
The 6-foot, 150-pound Chew, a triple-threat on offense for Centreville this past fall, will join wide out Daniel Bailey (Class of 2004), cornerback Derek Bailey (2005) and defensive end Andrew Lewis (2005) on the Orange's roster this coming season. He will also join former Westfield wide out Donte Davis to give Syracuse three receivers from western Fairfax County.
After a senior season in which he earned team offensive MVP and all-Concorde District honors after throwing for 640 yards and 14 touchdowns, rushing for 338 yards and four touchdowns and catching 26 passes for 269 yards and two scores, Chew will spend the summer looking to bulk up his slender frame in hopes of making an immediate impact at the Big East Conference school.
A cousin of the Bailey brothers, Chew will feel right at home at Syracuse, which is located in central New York and about a seven hour drive from Northern Virginia. This past season, there were 18 players from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area as the Orange continues to recruit the area heavily.
Chew, who was forced to spend part of his senior season under center after the graduation of all-region quarterback Drew Dudzik, is joined in the Orange's latest recruiting class by nose tackle Bud Tribbey, who was a member of the Varina team that lost to Chantilly in the state semifinals last December.
