Local Players Highlight Group AA All State Team

(Sterling, VA) With recruiting season winding down to its final two weeks, several local football players in the Gameday Magazine coverage area can now add something to their football resumes. The Group AA All State teams have been announced and several local standouts from the 2006 season have received recognition. Park View's Deric Dudinski was named 1st team All State as a defensive back and also grabbed a 2nd team All State honor as a running back. Sherando's Joey Christine was named 1st team All State as a defensive lineman as well. Dudinski and Christine led their teams to district championships and a combined record of 19-3 in 2006.
Liberty punter Andy Smith was named 2nd team All State after his stellar senior season for the Eagles and teammate DeVaughn Parsons received the same honor at defensive end. Parsons has already committed to Central Connecticut to play football next fall.
Several players received honorable mention including Potomac Falls defensive lineman Blaise Ruffing, Broad Run wide receiver Adrian Mines and kick return specialist Clayton Abel, and Park View linebacker Amechi Anyaugo.
The 2006 All State offensive player of the year honor was split between Louisa's talented running back Todd Shelton and Richlands quarterback Jeff McCracken. McCracken led Richlands to the division 3 state title this fall.
Amherst's Alonzo Poe took home the All State defensive player of the year award after leading Amherst to the state title as well.
Richlands Greg Mance and Amherst's Scott Abell were named the All State coaches of the year.
