Jones Leads Herndon Past Westfield, 57-39

Herndon, VA - Behind stellar performances by seniors Danny Jones and Isaac Anane, the Herndon boys basketball team claimed its 29th consecutive victory over a Northern Region opponent, defeating Concorde District rival Westfield, 57-39, at home on Friday night.

Jones and Anane each had game-high totals of 14 points as the Hornets improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the district with their fourth consecutive victory over the Bulldogs (10-4, 4-1). Senior guards C.J. Glenn and Richard Gore each added 11 for Herndon.

The Bulldogs, which had won eight of nine entering the contest, were paced by nine points from junior forward Maurice Hubbard - who fouled out with just over two minutes remaining - and junior point guard Jamie Richardson.

The second half started out with a 15-2 run by Herndon, and the Hornets held Westfield to seven points in the third quarter to take a 36-25 advantage entering the final period. The Bulldogs showed some promise in the fourth quarter, scoring the first five points and cutting the Hornet lead to six.

However, the Hornets would respond with a 16-5 run to seal the victory.

"Our defensive intensity and our pressure in the second half helped lead us to victory," said Herndon coach Gary Hall.
