Potomac Falls Pounds Park View 77-49 in Hoops

(Potomac Falls, VA) - Playing second fiddle in the Dulles District is something that the Potomac Falls basketball program is not accustomed to. Head Coach Jeff Hawes and his 2007 team found themselves entering Friday's match-up with first place Park View trailing the Patriots in the Dulles District standings, but with an impressive and dominating performance, the title race just became a little more interesting.

Potomac Falls rushed out to a big lead behind the play of seniors Ben Biber and Azhar Ahmed. Biber, one of the area's most experienced and talented point guards, helped the Panthers take a 37-19 lead late in the 2nd period, and the Panthers never looked back. Ahmed finished with 16 points and Biber added 21 to lead all scorers as Potomac Falls made a strong statement with a 77-49 victory over the top ranked Patriots.

Park View had difficulties all night long with the various defensive pressure and schemes that the Panthers implemented. Potomac Falls used a combination of half-court traps, man to man, and zone defenses to confuse the Patriots. Park View was never able to get into any kind of flow, and more importantly, the Panthers neutralized the Patriot big men in the paint. Park View's James Nolen led Patriot scorers with 18 points but could have played an even larger role had he not found himself in foul trouble during the game. Junior forward Thomas Mulabah finished with 13 points in the defeat and Park View struggled to get much production from the rest of the roster.

In addition to Biber's 21 points and Azhar's 16 points, the Panthers also received solid performances from senior Cory Flickenger and junior Alex Hogue. Both players finished with 10 points each. Junior Aaron Carter led the Panthers on defense with 6 blocks and his presence in the paint helped Potomac Falls win the battle on the boards.

Park View was 0-7 from 3-point range and Potomac Falls hit 3 of 7. The Panthers have now decreased the margin between themselves and Park View and improved their record to 9-4. Park View falls to 11-2 in the loss.

Chick-Fil-A Player of the Game:
Potomac Falls senior Ben Biber was the most dominating player on the court on Friday night scoring 21 points including one 3 pointer in the contest. Biber also played great defense, which contributed to several Park View turnovers.
