Twyman, Christine Headline All Gameday Team

(Shepherdstown, WV)- The first ever All Gameday Football Banquet was held at the Clarion Resort in Shepherdstown, WV this past Sunday. The event was a huge success with over 150 people in attendance.
Gameday Magazine entered the Winchester, Va area and West Virginia panhandle markets this August and has been following high school football closely in order to honor our athletes at the end of the season banquet. Thirty six athletes from twelve schools were selected based on there play on the field and demeanor on and off the field.
The Highlight of the banquet was the presentation of the DVD video which displayed highlights from all 36 players as well as a selection show which described each player's contributions to there position. Sherando's Head Coach Bill Hall a finalist for the Coach of the Year Award was impressed with the banquet, "The banquet and the DVD is something these kids will cherish for a long time."
The event was a great way to celebrate high school football in our area but also served as a great way to teach kids about football at the next level. University of Charleston's Ken Farrar spoke to the audience about how the college recruiting process works and the importance of being a student athlete. "This banquet was a first class production with an amazing DVD presentation," stated Coach Farrar.
The event concluded with the presentation of the three big awards. The Coach of the Year Award went to Martinsburg's Dave Walker for his 12-2 record and the Bulldogs WV State Runner Up title. Coach Walker has made the Bulldogs a statewide powerhouse and has proven to be very successful. Under Coach Walker the Bulldogs have played in four State Championship games in the last six years.
Martinsburg's Josh Twyman came away with Player of the Year honors. Twyman a senior running back for the Bulldogs ran for 1,882 yards and scored 22 touchdowns on the season. Twyman's consistant play and work horse mentality edged out the two other finalists (Sherando's Ross Metheny and Handley's JJ Dorsey).
The Tough Guy Award goes to the player who plays at a higher level than his competitors. Sherando's Joey Christine was an easy selection for this award. Christine was dominant all season long. He averaged 10 pancake blocks a game and was responsible for 64 tackles from his defensive tackle position.
When the night was over there were many smiles and new relationships developed between the athletes and the parents. "Today we celebrated the talents of our high school athlete but more importantly we brought many communities together in the hopes of building new friendships," stated event coordinator Kip Shallis.
