Thomas Scores 26 In Cougars' Opener
(Ashburn, VA) - High school basketball is well under way with the Cheers Sports Tip Off Tournament in progress at Broad Run high school. The Spartans hosted the Oakton Cougars in girls basketball on Friday night, but the Cougars and star point guard Jasmine Thomas were the ones that ended up feeling right at home. Thomas, who has verbally committed to play next year at Duke, is the #3 ranked prep player in the country. On Friday night, Thomas showed why the hype is deserved as she put up 25 points and finished the night 4 of 5 from the foul line. Oakton won the game 52-30 by scoring 21 points in the 4th period to put away the Spartans.
Broad Run played well in the second half of the game and Spartan Alexia Campbell finished the night with a team high 15 points and was 7 for 7 from the foul line with 3 steals in the contest. Maggie Andricosky also played well for Broad Run, finishing with 6 points 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
The Cougars and Jasmine Thomas are the favorite to win the Concorde District this season and Broad Run figures to be a favorite in the Dulles District. Both teams will round out play in the Cheers Sports Tip Off Tournament tomorrow.
