Heritage Boys Rout Vikings For 1st Victory
Leesburg, VA - Coming off a 68-47, turnover-filled loss to Millbrook last Friday, the Heritage boys basketball team knew it had something to prove against Loudoun Valley on Tuesday. The Pride did just that, blasting the Vikings, 83-65, for their first victory of the season.
Senior D.J. Summers led Heritage with 18 points, all coming from six 3-pointers he hit on the night. "I just kind of felt it [shooting the 3-pointer] tonight," Summers said. "I just felt like I was in the zone."
Summers was supported by senior teammate Myron McGowan, who added 16 points.
"We executed everything, we had fewer turnovers than last game [30 vs. Millbrook]. We shot the ball better and we took care of the ball," McGowan said. "We ended up with a great win."
The Pride led by 22 at halftime, increased their lead in the third quarter and emptied their bench in the fourth. Heritage coach Mark Mallisham used this opportunity to use all 13 players on the roster and give them all valuable playing experience.
Up next for Heritage (1-1 overall) is a trip to the defending Group A state champions, Clarke County, on Wednesday. Loudoun Valley (1-2) will look for their second win of the season when it hosts Fauquier on Wednesday.
