Hampton Roads Fall Sports Wrap-Up
Field Hockey: Cox forward Kaitlyn Hiltz led the state with 50 goals this season to lead the Falcons to a perfect 23-0 season and the program's state record 14th state championship. Hiltz finished her career with 88 goals in just three seasons, and at one point scored a goal in 23 straight contests, One of the top players in the country, Hiltz has committed to the University of Virginia. Junior, Kiley Allosso added 6 goals and 9 assist as the team's top mid-fielder, and Danielle Scissom led a stifling defense. Scissom will play for William and Mary next season.
Golf: With a two-day total of 138, Sophmore Brinson Paolini of Cox won the individual state championship. Fellow Falcon Jason Chun, finished fourth, and as a team, the Falcons shot an impressive 584 to win their 4th state title. That total averages out as a 73 per golfer per day. The Falcons continued their golf dominance in the Beach District, capturing their 19th district title in the past 20 seasons. With only senior Ali Ghanbari graduating, the Falcons should be even stronger next season.
Girls Volleyball: Junior Kim Maroon and the Cox Falcons win the Eastern Region Championship. With 301 kills, 270 digs, 166 assists and 49 blocks Maroon was one of the top players in the area. Landstown senior Lindsay Callahan, who along with Maroon was named co-Beach District Player of the Year has received a full scholarship to play at James Madison University. Callahan was the also named player of the year in 2005.
Boys Volleyball: The Cox Falcons and the First Colonial Patriots battled it out all the way to the state championship game this season. The Falcons, led by Jack Korte won the Beach District crown, but the Patriots and Matt Smith avenged their second place finished by knocking off Cox to win the Eastern Region finals. A week later the two teams met with the State Championship on the line and the Falcons pulled out the win: 25-22, 28-26, 25-19. The Falcons also won a State title in 2003. Korte finished his senior season with 289 kills, 138 digs, 27 blocks, and 59 service aces. Smith ended the season with 331 kills, 66 digs, 107 blocks and 29 aces.
Girls Cross Country: Great Bridge's Kristine Tobin won the Eastern Regional Final with a time of 18:12. Tobin would finish 5th at the State Championships (19:16) to go along with her third place finish in 2005. Stacey Nobles of Ocean Lakes finished 11th with a time of 19:27, Octavia Rinehardt of Tallwood also finished in the top 15 (19:41). Tobin plans to attend Virginia Tech on a track scholarship.
Boys Cross Country: Eddie Judge of Cox wins the Eastern Regional Final at 16:05. Judge places 4th at State Meet (16:15).
