Bulldogs Dream Season Comes To An End!

(Wheeling, WV) On Saturday at the Wheeling Island Stadium the 12-2 Martinsburg Bulldog football team lost to the Parkersburg Big Reds 34-6. The match up between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in class AAA was set and the heavyweight contest was to go down at 12:00 pm. Martinsburg brought there 12-1 record and #2 ranking in the State to the contest while Parkersburg entered the game with a perfect 13-0 record and ranked #1 in the State.
The stadium was alive with electricity as both teams brought there die hard fans to celebrate there schools state title run. As play began Parkersburg established the tone of the day on Martinsburg's first possession with Josh Twyman's first carry going for a three yard loss. That play was the first of many where Parkersburg would establish there very physical brand of football.
Martinsburg entered Saturday's game playing outstanding football! The Bulldogs faced some very difficult teams along the way and were the dominate team in many of those games. During Martinsburg's playoff run the Bulldogs were averaging close to 350 rushing yards a game and were holding there opponents to 3 points a game on average. With that being said on Saturday the Bulldogs ran into an opponent that played an outstanding football game. Parkersburg played a very physical football game that catered to there size and strength. On the day Parkersburg rushed for 352 yards behind the running of there two standout running backs. Tailback Matt Lindamood ran 17 times for a 174 yards and 3 touchdowns (56,13,4). Fullback Charlie Taylor rushed for 123 yards on 13 carries with 1 touchdown (43). Lindamood (6'0 200) and Taylor (6'3 230) were the best running backs that the Bulldogs faced all season and there physical, downhill running style gave the Bulldogs problems all day long.
Offensively the Bulldogs gained 190 total yards on the day. The backfield of Josh Twyman and Marcus Scott were shut down by the very big and fast Parkersburg defense. Martinsburg's lone touchdown came from a Dustin Peters to Xavier Peters 33 yard touchdown reception to start the 3rd quarter.
In the end the Bulldogs of Martinsburg have nothing to be ashamed of! Martinsburg had an amazing season with many highlights. Gameday would like to congratulate the Bulldogs and the rest of the Gameday Magazine football teams. It was an outstanding Year! Thanks for the great games and effort!
