Ruffing, Dudinski Headline AA All-Region Honors
(Sterling, VA) The 2006 Group AA All-Region Team was selected over the weekend and several players from the Gameday Magazine coverage area were chosen to the team. Highlighting the group of talented players from Loudoun County were Park View's Deric Dudinski and Potomac Falls lineman Blaise Ruffing. Dudinski, who made it as a defensive back, registered 94 total tackles this season and had 7 interceptions was also a 1st team All-Region tailback, but lost out to Louisa's Todd Shelton for the All-Region Player of the Year honor. Shelton has rushed for 2,308 yards this season and he and the Lions are preparing for the State Semi-Finals this weekend. Louisa's Eric Church also claimed the 2006 All-Region Defensive Player of the Year award as a linebacker. The 6'2 linebacker also made the 1st team as a place kicker. Church's 44 yard field goal with :02 seconds left in regulation helped the Lions beat #2 seed Park View in the first round of the playoffs.
Ruffing made the team as a 1st Team All-Region Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman. Ruffing was one of the few players to make All-Region on both sides of the ball. Broad Run's Adrian Mines was a 1st team All-Region receiver, and teammate Clayton Abel made 1st team as a kick return specialist. Park View's Amechi Anyaugo made the 1st team as a linebacker.
The Liberty Eagles were well represented on the 1st team All-Region defense with standout defensive end DeVaughn Parson making the squad with shutdown cornerback Sam Ball-Whitfield. Punter Andy Smith also made the team for the Eagles.
In the Winchester area, James Wood offensive lineman Cary Shannon made 1st team All-Region and Sherando's Joey Christine was named 1st team All-Region offensive and defensive lineman. Handley's J.J. Dorsey (31 TD's) and wide receiver Justin Banks were both named to the 1st team offense for the Judges.
The 2006 All-Region Coach of the Year in Division 4 was Louisa's Mark Fisher. Fisher led the Lions to their first ever playoff victory in 2006 and his team will play this weekend in the State Semi-Finals.
