Q and A with Martinsburg's Scott Stump

Q and A with Martinsburg's Scott Stump
Scott Stump is a junior on the Martinsburg football team. From his linebacker position Stump is a standout player and the leader of the Bulldog defense.

Gameday: What is your role on the Martinsburg defense?
Scott Stump: I play the mike linebacker position. My job is to stop the run and take care of the A gaps.

GD: Take us inside of the Bulldog huddle and give us a defensive play call?
SS: Stack Fire Cannon Weak Orange Cannon Strong Orange P !

GD: What is more difficult for you as a linebacker? Meeting a 230 pound fullback in the hole or tackling a running back in the open field?
SS: Definitely the running back in open space! There is a chance that he can put a move on you and you could miss. The fullback might run over you but there is a very little chance that you will miss him.

GD: Coach Sine is a very intense Defensive Coordinator! How has he helped you with your linebacker position?
SS: Coach Sine has been a huge help. He has taught me the fundamentals of football and has allowed me to use my ability to the fullest.

GD: Inform our younger audience on what qualities are needed to be a dominant linebacker!
SS: The most important thing is you cannot be afraid of contact. I also feel that you must have good vision so that you can see the entire field.

GD: Martinsburg running back Josh Twyman is averaging 150 yards and 2 TD's a game. What makes him so good?
SS: He runs extremely hard. He fights for every yard he gets.

GD: In your 3 year career with the Bulldogs, who was the best offensive player that your team has faced?
SS: Josh Brown from Jefferson last year! He was very fast.

GD: How has the Martinsburg coaching staff allowed you to be a successful person on and off the field?
SS: Last year I asked Coach Walker what I could do to get better and he told me to lose a little weight and get faster. He gave me the motivation to lose 45 pounds in the off season. Playing the game 45 pounds lighter has made me a better player.

GD: Your defensive coordinator Coach Sine was also a standout linebacker for Martinsburg! Who wins the battle if the two of you met in the hole?
SS: Definitely Coach Sine! I have to be careful with what I say I am only a junior.

GD: Why do you think the Bulldogs are having such a good season?
SS: Because we are a total team! We play as a team and not as an individual. Everybody looks out for one another and that has helped us throughout the season.
