Kessler's 2 TD's Lead Valley To 28-15 Victory

(Purcellville, VA) - The Yorktown Patriots came into today's game against Loudoun Valley 4-0, and were looking to take advantage of a Viking team that had lost two games in a row. The Vikings had other plans for the Patriots and when it was all said and done, Valley put together an impressive performance in front of a packed house on a beautiful day in Purcellville.
Loudoun Valley got off to a fast start, taking the ball all the way down to the Yorktown two yard line before a fumble would halt the drive. The Vikings would eventually get on the scoreboard first with Ryan Sheehan taking a handoff and racing to the endzone to put Valley on top. The Vikings missed the extra point and the score remained 6-0. Yorktown's Robbie Shivers capped off an impressive drive with a nice touchdown run to put the Patriots up 7-6 following the Valley score.
Vikings Brian Oden and Clyde Kessler put up big numbers on the ground in the contest. Oden and Kessler both scored before the half as Valley extended it's lead to 21-7. Oden finished with 180 yards rushing on 20 carries and Kessler scored 2 touchdowns in the game and finished with 82 yards rushing on 14 carries.
The Vikings took control of the contest in the 3rd quarter with Kessler clinching the win with a 57 yard touchdown run that was the highlight play of the day. Kessler took the snap and raced toward the left side of the field, then cut it back to the right to find nothing but open field ahead of him. The Vikings threw several great blocks down the field and Kessler did the rest as he put Valley up 28-7. Yorktown would add a late touchdown and convert a two point conversion to make the score 28-15, but Valley came away with a huge win.
The Vikings gained their confidence back with the win over Yorktown. Valley plays Friday against Washington Lee. Yorktown will face Mt. Vernon.
