Patriots Fall 14-7 To Martinsburg At Home

(Sterling, VA) - On a wet and cold night in Sterling Park, the Park View Patriots were hoping to keep their undefeated record alive against the Martinsburg Bulldogs from West Virginia. In a low scoring contest, the Patriots fell behind early, and the Bulldogs were able to outlast a late 4th quarter comeback from Park View to hold on to the 14-7 victory.

Martinsburg's Dustin Peters got the scoring started with a 50 yard touchdown pass to Xavier Peters in the first quarter to put the Bulldogs up 7-0. Martinsburg would get on the board again with the help of a 45 yard touchdown run from running back Josh Twyman to take a 14-0 lead going into the half.

The Bulldogs did a nice job containing Park View's Deric Dudinski in the wet conditions, but in the 3rd quarter, Dudinski scored from 3 yards out after Park View marched down the field after converting two flee-flickers.

With less than 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Patriots stopped the Martinsburg offense on 4th and 1 on their own 1 yard line, but they were unable to mount a scoring drive to tie the game.

With the win, Martinsburg improved to 5-1 on the season and Park View fell to 4-1. The Patriots will meet Dulles District foe Heritage next week in a game that should decide who takes the driver's seat for the district championship.

Game Notes:
Park View retired the jersey of former Patriot and NFL great Jeff Lageman. Lageman played for the Patriots and went on to star at UVA and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
