Devon Brown Rushes for 312yds as Bulldogs Win
(Vienna, Virginia) - Stone Bridge and Madison got into a Liberty District shoot-out Friday night, but the Bulldogs clearly had superior weaponry as they downed the Warhawks 52-35 to stay unbeaten at 6-0. Devon "Y'Lou" Brown set a single game school rushing record with 312 yards, and was the obvious difference in the contest.
Madison came out firing and a 37-yard screen pass from Kevin Healy to Aaron Lambert, with help from a personal foul penalty, took the ball to the Stone Bridge 30 on the first play. Just five plays later Healy capped the drive with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Mike Doumas, and fight was on.
The Bulldogs, however, were in the mood to mix it up. On the first play from scrimmage, Brown bolted through a big hole in the right side and sped down the sideline for a 65-yard TD. Ronnie Shaban's extra point tied the score at 7-7.
Starting from their own 26, the Warhawks made it to midfield before the Stone Bridge defense stiffened and forced a punt. The Bulldogs took over on their 18, and Brown nearly pulled off a repeat, taking the first snap and twisting and turning all the way to the Madison 28. On the next play, Jeron Gouveia found another huge hole on the left side and broke several secondary tackles before diving in for the touchdown. The extra point put Stone Bridge in the lead 14-7.
A booming kickoff by Shaban (one of several on the night) put Madison on their own 20 to start, and again the Warhawks used the running of Lambert and Doumas to move to midfield. But the Stone Bridge defense held once more and Madison punted to the Bulldog 29.
