Metheny's 3 TD Passes Put Cougars Down

The Sherando and Jefferson football game lived up to its game of the week billing. Sherando entered the game featuring a high powered passing offense with a very talented quarterback. The Cougars were hoping to get the the ball to their All-State running back Ryland Newman and use their speed on defense to disrupt the Warrior offense. Sherando dominated many aspects of this game except for the margin of victory. Sherando produced 411 total yards of offense compared to Jefferson's 81. The Warriors passed for 228 yards and three touchdowns compared to the Cougars 0 passing yards. Looking at the statistics it is amazing how Jefferson was able to be in a position to win this ball game and that is a credit to the Cougar determination and toughness. Monday's game was as physical a game as you will find at any level and it had all the makings of a playoff atmosphere.
Sophomore quarterback Ross Metheney continued to show why many people believe he will be a big time college recruit before his career is over at Sherando. Metheney completed 13-20 throws for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns. Those stats are very impressive considering the speed and talent of the cougar defense. Wide Receiver Derek Crossen was also very impressive. Crossen had 3 catches for 128 yards and displayed his great speed with touchdown catches of 42 and 70 yards.
The Warrior defense was able to limit Jefferson to 81 yards of total offense. Standout running back Ryland Newman was held to 50 rushing yards on 14 carries. Sherando's defensive line is a huge group with talent at every position. Expect the Warriors defense to give opposing team fits with their size and talent.
