Bulldogs Rally Past Wildcats In Volleyball
(Ashburn, Va) The highly anticipated Volleyball match up between the Stone Bridge Bulldogs (5-2) and the Centreville Wildcats (1-1) turned out to be a close point swapping battle. Early on, the Wildcats came to play and took the 10th ranked bulldogs by storm. Centreville won the first game with ease 25-17. The Wildcats were heavily assisted by several errant shots from the Bulldogs.
In game number two, the Bulldogs re-established themselves as the dominant team. Stone Bridge won the second contest, but the comeback could not have been possible without a great second game by senior two sport standout, Marianne Bell. Bell finished the contest with a very impressive match high, 13 kills. The Bulldogs won in the second match 25-15, and would go on to win the entire match and improve their record with a big win over Centreville. Stone Bridge's Marianne Bell found some positives and negatives in the win.
“I didn't block great tonight but I was pleased with my offensive performance,” said Bell. “It was a great game tonight and the fans were into it, I always try to get as many people as possible to come. They really help.”
The Bulldogs did their best to run away with the match, but the Wildcats made things interesting all night long. Stone Bridge setter and captain Emily Hindman helped to the Bulldogs to the big win with 10 assists and 4 kills.
Bulldog head coach Jill Raschiatore was very pleased and impressed with the close win over a difficult Wildcat team.
“It is difficult to come back after being a game down. Going into the second game we were nervous, but an excited sort of nervous,” said Raschiatore. “I am very impressed with Marianne's play. Every game, I can see her improving enough to make a difference.”
