Ritt Shows Leadership in Knights Victory

On Saturday, the Knights won a Beach District opener against First Colonial under the leadership of Matt Ritt who threw 3 touchdown passes and featured six scoring plays of 55 yards or more.

Down 24-7 in the third quarter, First Colonial cut that deficit to four when Jamal Gourdine connected with Carl Randle on a 68-yard pass for a score, then with Brandon Law on an 82-yarder.

Kellam responded when Ritt connected with James Taylor and turned it into a 67-yard TD reception and a 31-20 Kellam lead.

First Colonial came back to within three on Taveion Cuffee's 75-yard TD run on a reverse and regained possession once more before turning the ball over on downs, with Kellam running out the clock.

Kellam players had problems throughout the game with cramps under the hot midday sun. Coaches said they would re-emphasize the importance of drinking lots of water this week in practice.

Key stats: K-Ritt 8-15-1-207, 3 TDs passing; Greg Nosal 3-77 yards receiving. Javon Boddie 13-43 rushing. FC-Gourdine 7-21-0-248 passing; Law 2-147 2 TDs receiving.
