The Bulldogs and the Vikings will take the field Friday at 7:30pm in Lexington, Va. Martinsburg is coming off an impressive win over cross town rival Hedgesville 48-16. Standount running back Josh Twyman accounted for five touchdowns and will be the focal point for the Vikings this week. Rockbridge County will kick off their 2006 season against the Bulldogs. The Vikings return standout quarterback Marcus Mayo and a group of very athletic players. Last season the Bulldogs beat the Vikings in a close game 18-13. Expect Friday's game to feature many gifted athletes and two teams that are very explosive.
Keys to the Game
> Martinsburg must contain Rockbridge QB Marcus Mayo. The Vikings run a spread offense and allow Mayo to create plays with his feet or his arm.
> Rockbridge must slow down the Bulldogs rushing attack. Last week Martinsburg rushed for 273 yards as a team. The Bulldogs have a great offensive line and mant talented runners.
> The team that does not give up the big play on defense will win this game!
Players to Watch
Martinsburg Bulldogs Jessie Jean and Matt Porter= Jean and Porter will be asked to play a major role in containing the Vikings quarterback. These two players are two way starters and can dominate the line of scrimmage.
Rockbridge County Vikings Marcus Mayo= At 6'2" 180 Mayo is a very dangerous player. Mayo can beat a defense with his speed or throwing ability. The talented senior is a threat to score from anywhere on the field.
