Heritage Rolls: 25-12, 25-14 in District Opener

(LEESBURG, VA) - The same day that Loudoun County Schools opened their doors to students, the Heritage High School Volleyball team kicked off their Dulles District Schedule against the Dominion Titans. The Pride put a nice finishing touch on the first day of classes with an impressive victory.

Jumping out to an early lead in the first game, the Pride out-served and out played a tough Titan team. The Pride won the first game easily, however in the second game the Dominion offense gave them a battle. At one point the Titans cut the lead to three points. Heritage would eventually pull away and put the match to rest.

A strong performance by standout Alana Rudkovsky helped Heritage run away with the victory. Rudkovsky finished the game with a total of nine kills and played unselfish volleyball by setting her teammates up for point opportunities countless times.

“It was a good game overall. Our defense really picked it up,” said Rudkovsky. “We are playing a much faster game this season. Our communication has improved, everyone just played great.”

Fellow senior Rachel young also added to the Pride offense with nine kills in the game. Center Katherine Buttery helped on offense as well, setting up her teammates with a total of 24 assists.

Although the loss starts the Titans off 0-1 in the district, head coach Jenn Erne took some positives out of the match.

“Overall our blocking was incredible,” said Erne. “We had many more touches which really helps to control the defense.”

The Titans and Pride match up again on October 5th at Dominion High School.
