Heritage Wins 8th Straight, Pound Judges

(LEESBURG, VA) - Still in search of their first victory, the Handley Judges (0-7) came to Leesburg Monday night hoping to shut down the Heritage Pride (8-1). The outcome was just the opposite of what they hopped for; getting shut down themselves due to a number of unforced errors and communication issues.

From the start, the Pride dominated and capitalized on nearly every point set up opportunity from talented senior, Katherine Buttery. She would finish the contest with 19 assists while scoring 11 service points of her own.

Although the match was delayed nearly 30 minutes due to a head injury to Judges Outside Hitter, Kari Craig, the Pride remained undaunted, kept their composure, and won the match with ease; 24-14, 25-11, 25-9. Craig was taken off the court on an ambulance stretcher, however, it was stressed that it is only for precautionary reasons.

The Pride have now won eight straight matches and have their eye on a district title, and possibly more. Either way, head coach Carmel Keilty couldn't be more pleased with the direction that the team is moving in.

“The girls come to every game wanting to do the best they possibly can,” says Kielty. “We are playing really well together but we have to take one game at a time. Every match is important.”

Along with Buttery, several other members of the Pride team had solid performances. Senior Alana Rudkovsky, who is becoming a household name in the Dulles District, had 8 kills of her own while Rachel Young posted 11 kills and 2 blocks to lead the Pride to victory.
