Heritage Cross Country Finishes Well On Sat...

The Heritage Cross Country teams competed in the Handley High Judges Cross Country Classic in Winchester on Saturday, September 16.

The varsity girls team took home 3rd place (behind 1st place Chantilly and 2nd place Stone Bridge) and finished as the first AA team in the meet. The girls defeated milestat.com AA #4 ranked team, Monticello. This was a total team effort with great races from Ashleigh Dyson, Kelly Geyer, Jayde James, Shannon Karinshak, Bini Kronenberg, Hannah McLaughlin, and Lauren Stephens. Hannah McLaughlin medaled and finished 13th place. Jayde James took home 20th place.

The varsity boys team also finished 3rd place (behind nationally ranked Handley HS and 2nd place Potomac Falls). The team finished in front of four milestat.com ranked teams--Clarke County, Spotswood, Sherando, and Millbrook. This was another great team race, with the gap between Heritage #1 Nick McLaughlin and Heritage #5 only 58 seconds. Nick McLaughlin medaled, finishing 10th place, and Jesse Saldana took home 16th place.

The JV girls race, although not officially scored as a team race, was won by Hertiage with a team score of 45 points. 2nd place Clarke County scored 101 points. Top 15 medal performances from Sarah Andrew (13th), Grace Corapi (4th), Amanda Ward (2nd), and race champion Mikaela Finnegan.

The JV boys race, again not officially scored as a team race, was won by Heritage with a team score of 36 points. 2nd place Handley scored 53 points. Top 15 medal performances from Bryton Gillespie (11th), Josh Douglas (10th), Allen Monk (9th), Mitch Blankenship (5th), and race champion Josh Klug.

The team competes this Wednesday at Oatlands at 4:45 against Potomac Falls and Broad Run.
