E J Manuel Posts 360 Yards in Opener

On The Locker Room last Friday night, I picked E. J. Manuel as one to watch this season and in their season opener, he showed us exactly what I expected him to... E.J. Manuel passed for two touchdowns and ran for another in the second half as the host Marlins won a Beach District season opener against Green Run. Manuel finished with 360 yards passing.

Bayside scored on three well executed drives of 68, 67 and 55 yards. Manuel's 45-yard scoring strike to Jamal Johnson gave the Marlins the lead for good in the third quarter. Manuel followed that with an 11-yard TD run and a 23-yard scoring pass to Deveon Braithwaite in the fourth quarter.

Green Run defeated Bayside last year to end a 51-game losing streak. Rahmel Glover ran 18 yards for a score for Green Run to create some excitement on their bench after a seven play, 65 yard drive.

Key stats: B-Manuel 18-25-0-360, 2 TDs passing, 10-33, TD rushing; Johnson 8-172, TD receiving; Jakale Chandler 6-83 receiving. GR-Glover 9-19-2-135, TD passing, 11-62, TD rushing; Robert Hill 3-58, TD receiving.
