Bulldogs Set For Battle With West Springfield...

Stone Bridge vs West Springfield
7:30pm - Friday September 8th, 2006
Ashburn, Virginia - Bulldog Stadium
(ASHBURN, VA) - It's been about 8 months since the Stone Bridge Bulldogs walked off the field in Hampton Roads, Virginia after falling just short of winning their school's first state championship in football. For most of the Bulldogs, Friday's match-up with West Springfield couldn't get here fast enough. Stone Bridge will open play in 2006 against a West Springfield Spartan team that is well coached, and talented. That is causing Stone Bridge Head Coach Mickey Thompson to lose some sleep.
“I'm concerned about these guys, they are a good team and they have a very good quarterback. I also know they will be prepared coming into the game because they are very well coached,” Thompson said.
The good news for Stone Bridge is, the Bulldogs are pretty good too. The 2006 version of the Stone Bridge football team should be exciting to watch. The Bulldogs feature a dynamic player at quarterback in Terence Glenn, and several outstanding players including tackle Andrew Nuss, and running back Devon Brown.
West Springfield has a future UVA Cavalier in quarterback and highly touted recruit, Peter Lalich. Lalich is 6'5 235lbs and has committed to play for UVA next season. Last year, Lalich scorched the opposition for 2,700 yards and 22 TD's. He is also a great athlete with 4.6 speed in the 40yd dash. Lalich and Glenn will make this game fun to watch and listen to on the radio, with TCC Sports covering the game worldwide online live at www.GamedayMagazine.com, and on Saturday at 2pm on Vegas Radio WTRI 1520AM. Below are the keys to the game for both teams.
Keys To A Stone Bridge Victory:
Ø Establish The Running Game Early with Devon Brown
Ø Don't Allow The Big Play Down The Field In The Passing Game
Ø Pressure Lalich With Blitzes and a Solid Pass Rush
Keys To A West Springfield Victory:
Ø Test The Bulldogs Defense Deep Early and Often
Ø Force Glenn To Beat Them By Throwing The Football
Ø Control The Time Of Possession In The Game
Extra Point:
Friday's game between Stone Bridge and West Springfield will be a crucial one for the Bulldogs. Stone Bridge has three incredibly tough opponents to open the season with Oakton and Loudoun Valley in the next two weeks. A fast start could be crucial to another return to a Liberty District Championship and a run at another state title.

Stone Bridge wins this game by 7 points, but it will be close until the final minutes.

Stone Bridge – 21
West Springfield – 14
