Bulldogs Crush Colonials Behind Brown's 4 TD's

The Stone Bridge Bulldogs opened district play in impressive fashion, rolling over the Thomas Jefferson Colonials 49-0. Devon “Y'Lou” Brown tied a school record for rushing touchdowns in a game with four.

The Bulldogs came into the contest with a full head of steam and never hesitated in crushing the over-matched Colonials. Aside from one drive that ended with an interception, the Stone Bridge starters scored on every series in the first half, and were given the rest of the night off.

Jefferson came out running to start the game, using option pitches effectively against a Stone Bridge defense that seemed to be playing back in anticipation of a passing attack. But the Bulldogs quickly adjusted, and on third down Sean Early picked off a Jonathon Seidman pass to end the drive.

Stone Bridge opened with two quick passes from Terence Glenn to Patrick Thompson and Mike Barta before Brown scampered 25 yards out to the Bulldog 40. Alternating between Brown and Glenn, the Bulldog speed was too much for the Colonials. On first-and-ten from the Jefferson 24, Glenn was seemingly stopped near the left sideline before twisting and turning his way to the other side and finally being taken down at the five. Brown punched it in from there and Chad Grendell's extra point made the score 7-0.

Ronnie Shaban's kickoff was a rocket that bounced off a Jefferson front line player, and Matt Irwin pounced on the free ball. After a 23-yard reception by Irwin and an 8-yarder to Barta, Brown showed his moves by slashing through defenders down to the one, and scored his second touchdown on the next play. Shaban's turn at extra points was good and the Bulldogs led 14-0.

After the kickoff, the Colonials stalled and were forced to punt. Stone Bridge went to the air and Glenn completed four passes for 64 yards before Will Riedel intercepted at the Jefferson 17. However, Jeron Gouveia quickly returned the favor by picking off Seidman and returning it to the ten. Two plays later Brown scored from the two for his third tally of the game.

Again Jefferson was stymied and forced to punt. Taking over on the Stone Bridge 39, Glenn found Thompson for 12 yards, then ran a quarterback draw and streaked up the left sideline for an apparent touchdown. He was called out of bounds at the 17, however, and on the next play Brown used his speed to easily outrun the Colonial defenders to the right corner of the endzone. The extra point made it 28-0 Stone Bridge.

On the next Jefferson series, an errant pitch was pounced on by Zach Thompson at the Colonial 14, and on the ensuing play Glenn found Greg Fenner in the corner for the touchdown. The halftime score was a lopsided 35-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The third quarter saw Stone Bridge using reserves, and the continuous clock allowed for little action as neither side could sustain a drive. But opening the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs got fine runs from Michael Prince, Ryan Moody and Daniel Allen before Allen bolted in from 23 yards out for Stone Bridge's sixth score of the night.

Jefferson went three-and-out, and the Bulldogs took over on their own 14. Five plays later, Prince sped around the right side and outraced several Colonials up the sideline for a 67-yard touchdown. Grendell's extra point finished the scoring at 49-0. Joey Hoellerer's interception on Jefferson's first play following the kickoff was the final blow in what was ultimately a very one-sided contest.

Stone Bridge moves to 4-0, 1-0 in district play. It was the Bulldogs' 26th consecutive victory in regular season district competition, dating back to October 20, 2002. Their next opponent is Langley in a rematch of the 2005 Monsoon Bowl.
