Stone Bridge To Expand Weight Room Facility

Stone Bridge High School opened in 2000 with one of the smallest weight rooms in the county. Almost immediately, administrators, teachers and coaches realized the weight room could not adequately serve all of the students and athletes at the school. It had been on the school's “wish list” of capital projects for the last several years.
After almost four years of fundraising by the Stone Bridge Athletic Boosters Club, the school's wish has now been granted. At the Booster Club's June General Membership meeting, the club passed a motion to incur debt which was needed to meet the $208,000 price tag for expanding the weight room. While it is highly unusual for a booster club to incur debt, the members felt it was important for students and athletes to be able to lift in a safer environment. In addition, construction costs will continue to rise and the membership felt this was the only way to complete the project. The SBHS Athletic Department is committing $25,000 towards the project. The booster club is directly contributing approximately $90,000 already on hand. The balance will be financed.
The expansion will roughly double the size of the weight room, to almost 2,000 square feet. Patriot Contracting, LLC is the general contractor for the project. The booster club would like to thank Steve DeLong and Doug Brewer for their efforts in making this project a reality. Construction started on July 6 and is slated to be completed in early September, right when students return.
In an effort to retire the debt as quickly as possible, the Athletic Booster Club will be turning to the business community for contributions. The booster club has designed some incentive packages for contributors. A solicitation will begin at the start of the school year.
