Morrison and Clark Win Gold at Nike Nationals
Great Bridge Wildcat Mike Morrison and Bayside's Charles Clark are well known in Hampton Roads for their domination both here and on the state level. They both took their dominance to the national level Saturday as each won titles at the Nike Outdoor Nationals track and field meet at North Carolina A&T University.
Morrison cleared 17 feet, 3 inches to set a meet record in the pole vault. He easily cleared 16-3 and 16-7-1/4 and the competition heated up when Georgia's Jordan Scott cleared 17-0. Scott wouldn't go any higher but Morrison kept going with his 17-3 performance. It was the sixth time this season that Morrison has cleared 17 feet . Morrison has had an incredible career at Great Bridge being named to the National Honor Society; received the Principal's Academic Award, Named to the Chesapeake School Board Scholar- Athlete Superintendent's Team, Chesapeake School Board Athletic Special Recognition; Great Bridge High School Junior Class Scholar-Athlete Award. Mike Morrison has signed with Florida.
Clark ran one of the nation's top times this season to win the 200 meters. Clark, who ran 20.92, also led the Marlins to a national title in the 800 medley relay and finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.58. Clark who won two gold medals used this event to announce he will be attending the University of Maryland on a track scholarship.
