Raulerson gives Hickory Region Softball Title
Hickory pitching ace Katie Raulerson 4th straight shutout gives Hickory the win and the Eastern Region Title. The junior, using her outstanding curve , pitched a two-hit shutout. Hickory’s 3-0 victory at Princess Anne High School earned the Hawks a host role for a Group AAA state quarterfinal Tuesday against the Northwest Region runner-up, either Massaponax (15-6) or Franklin Count y (17-6). Those teams meet at 4 p.m. today in Fredericksburg. Eastern Region runner-up Great Bridge (17-4) travels to play the Northwest champion Tuesday.
Raulerson was satisfied with her game, saying ''This was probably the best I pitched overall in our three games against Great Bridge." She and her team are looking forward to hosting a state tournament game Tuesday.
''This Eastern Region trophy means a lot,’’ said Coach Ryan Wieck holding the golden cup. ''When you win in a field with teams like Kempsville, Great Bridge and Princess Anne, that’s very memorable.’’
