Hickory to Play Stone Bridge in Semi Finals
The 11th consecutive victory for the Eastern Region champion Hawks (22-4), send them to their first state semifinal appearance Friday at Stoney Run Complex in Newport News. Hickory plays the 3 p.m. game against Northern Region champion Stone Bridge (27-1) from Ashburn.
Hickory's Jaclyn Quinn gets the credit for the RBI with two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh inning of the state Group AAA softball quarterfinal Tuesday. A line drive into left field made it easy for Alison Motley to score from second base to secure a 1-0 victory over Northwest Region runner-up Franklin County (17-8). Hickory's Katie Raulerson (13-2), struck out 11 and ran her scoreless-innings streak to 35.
In Fredericksburg, Great Bridge pounded 17 hits, including home runs by Alex Collado and Rachel Palmer. It was the first homer of season for both Wildcats, giving the Eastern Region runner-up Great Bridge (18-4) a 14-2 victory over host Massaponax on Tuesday. The Wildcats play Central Region champion Hanover (24-2) in the 1 p.m. semifinal Friday.
