Hickory & Great Bridge Fall in Semi-Finals
Stone Bridge Bulldog Breighana Harris halted Hickory's 11-game winning streak 1-0 to win the Group AAA softball semifinals Friday at Stoney Run Complex. Harris, a hard-throwing senior with 25 wins , shocked Hickory by striking out six of the first seven batters on the way to her 15th shutout. She struck out nine in a three-hitter .
First-year Group AAA entry Stone Bridge (28-1) and Hanover (25-2) play for title at 2 p.m. today .
In the opener, Great Bridge (18-5) rallied from a 2-0 deficit when they finally got to Hanover's Kristen Bruce (14-1) in the sixth inning, tieing the score at 2-2 to force extra innings, but gave up four-runs in the ninth to fall 6-2 to Central Region champ Hanover of Mechanicsville.
