First Colonial star Frank Berry Scores Title Run
Frank Berry scored from second base on an infield hit by Myles Shipp in the fifth inning to complete a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory over Hickory in an Eastern Region baseball semifinal Wednesday at Old Dominion University. Berry's game-winning run sent the Patriots (23-2) into tonight's 6 p.m. championship game at ODU against unbeaten Menchville. Menchville defeated Great Bridge 2-1 in Wednesday's other semifinal.
Both finalists earned berths in the Group AAA state tournament, which begins Tuesday. Menchville (24-0) is the first Peninsula District team to qualify for the state tournament since 1998.
