Cox Girl's "Best in History" but Fall in State Final
The Falcons (20-2-2) soccer coach Michele Clark reminded her team of all they accomplished after a dominating defeat at the hands of Lake Braddock 3-0. The "Best in History" is something to be proud of for a team not expected to get this far back in the beginning of the season. Back then, Kellam and Princess Anne were the teams to watch, but Cox did in fact dominate in the Beach District, remaining undefeated all season to win the Eastern Region Championship. No Cox girl's team had ever made it to the State final.
Eastern Region player of the year, Liza Woodward held the Wachovia trophy awarded to Cox for outstanding sportsmanship through the tournament, but couldn't hold back her tears over the loss and her failure to make that 30th goal. She had one shot on goal that missed and ended her season with 29, an incredible accomplishment.
