Bulldogs Win 4-3 while Oakton Loses 1-0
The magical season for the Stone Bridge Bulldog softball team continued on Tuesday evening as they beat Mills Godwin in the state quarterfinals in Ashburn, Virginia. The Bulldogs and Mills Godwin were tied 3-3 until the bottom of the 7th inning when pitcher Breighana Harris singled to put the winning run on base. All Met shortstop Samantha Ingersoll was the hero as she drove in the pinch runner for the deciding run and Stone Bridge advanced to the state semi-finals.
The Bulldogs will play the winner of the Hickory vs Franklin County game (In progress) for the right to play for the state championship. The game will be played in Newport News, the site of the State Championships this spring for the Group AAA Division 6 Softball teams. In the win, Breighana Harris went 3 for 4 including the deciding hit that put the winning run on base for Ingersoll.
Oakton Falls to Hanover 1-0
The Oakton Cougars had every opportunity to advance to the Region 6 State Semi-finals on Tuesday night against Hanover, but couldn't take advantage of having runners in scoring position to do so. The Cougars had runners at 1st and 3rd and runners at 2nd and 3rd with less than two outs twice in the ballgame but weren't able to advance them in. Oakton's loss makes Stone Bridge the only Division 6 team still in the hunt for a state title.
