TCC Combine Top Scores and Results

On May 20th, 2006, TCC Sports held its first Gridiron Combine and the event showcased several of the best football players in the state of Virginia. Several of the participants there on Saturday will be playing major college football next season. Each player was tested in the 40-yard dash, bench press, pro agility drills, vertical jump, and the broad jump.

Due to the poor traction on the turf at the Sports Plex, the 40 yard dash times and agility times were a little slower than normal. TCC Sports will be offering each participant the opportunity to be re-tested for free in the near future in the 40 yard dash, details of the day and time will be released soon.

There were several outstanding performances on the day at the Gridiron Combine despite the slow times with the timed tests. Turner Ashby High School went home with the two strongest players on the bench press. Carl McIntire and Justin Smith both put up 24 reps at 185 pounds and edged out Park View’s Corbin Barnes and Stone Bridge’s David Wang who finished with 23 reps in the first flight. In the second flight, Martinsburg’s William Nolet put up 22 reps at 185 pounds to take home the best performance on the bench press in the afternoon. Liberty’s Chris Hunter finished in second place with 20 reps.

In the Vertical Jump, three local players from Ashburn had the highest scores. Stone Bridge's Daniel Allen had the best vertical jump of the combine at 37.5 inches. Allen is a rising sophomore and had an impressive day at the combine. Broad Run offensive lineman Bryan Morrison jumped 35.5 inches and had the second best jump of the day. Stone Bridge tight end Greg Fenner finished right behind him at 35 inches. Several players jumped 34 inches and another handful had 33 inch verticals.

Liberty running back Corey Lillard jumped 9 feet 6 inches to take home the best score on Saturday. Heritage defensive back Bobby Edmonds had the best score in the first flight with a jump of 9 feet 4 inches. Franklin County's J.T Edwards and Liberty’s Chris Ball-Whitfield both jumped 9 feet 5 inches to finish second to Lillard’s jump of 9 feet 6 inches.

Despite the slow track, Loudoun Valley’s Ryan Sheehan posted the fastest time at the combine in the 40 yard dash. Sheehan, who is a wide receiver and running back for Loudoun Valley, ran two consecutive 4.7 times.

The 2006 TCC Sports Gridiron Combine will be televised on ESPN2 in the month of July in Loudoun County on Adelphia’s cable system. Combine footage will also soon be available on GamedayTV online at www.tccsports.com and the top finishers who will be invited to the TCC Sports Skills Challenge in July will be posted soon.
