Southeastern District Sweeps Eastern Region
For the first time since 1997 the Southeastern District earned both Eastern Region state Group AAA softball tournament berths, led by Shutouts by Hickory's Katie Raulerson and Great Bridge's Chelsea Henline.
Raulerson (11-2) blanked defending state champion Kempsville on a four-hitter and struck out seven in a 4-0 win in Tuesday's Eastern Region semifinals at Princess Anne High School. Michelle Lighton knocked a two-out grand slam in the fifth inning .
Henline (10-2) shocked Princess Anne on five hits and didn't allow a runner past second base in a 7-0 victory.
Hickory (20-4) and Great Bridge (17-3) will clash for the third time at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Eastern Region title game at Princess Anne. Hickory won each of the first two meetings by one run.
