Softball's Top Teams Stumble in Hampton Roads
Four of the top teams in Hampton Roads fell short across region.
Stephanie Kemp lead the 9th ranked Kellam Knights to a 3-1 victory over the top ranked Kempsville Chiefs (12-4, 9-3). Kelly Porter and Kelly Kemick got things going early in the game with two runs off Inde Whitehurst. The Chiefs are still holding on to a half-game lead over Kellam and Princess Anne in the tight Beach District race.
Green Run defeated the 4th ranked Princess Anne Cavaliers 2-1 when Rachel Nichols singled in one of two runs in the fourth inning and Whitney Robinson added a home run. Rose Gressley pitched a four hitter and had nine strikeouts to put the Cavaliers (12-3, 8-3) down. The Stallions are enjoying a four game winning streak.
The Salem Sun Devils shut-out Bayside 15-0 when Kendra Knight threw a perfect game which was called after six innings. Knight, a Sophmore struck out 14 batters scoring her 10th win and hit her second home run. Kelly DeSantos had two hits and three RBIs and Ashley Huffman had three hits and two RBIs for the 6th ranked Sun Devils.
In Chesapeake, Deep Creek (11-4, 8-3) upset the 3rd ranked Hickory Hawks (10-4,8-3) off Lee-Ann Wright's two run hit for the 8th ranked Hornets. Amanda Banaag scored her 10th victory with four hits.
