Princess Anne Stops Tallwood to Win District
For the first time in two years, Princess Anne is headed to the Eastern Region Tournament after defeating Tallwood 5-0 in the Beach District Softball Tournament. The host Cavaliers (18-5) dominated the sixth inning with four runs to stop No. 8 seeded Tallwood’s bid in the championship game.
Brittany Bryan, replaced Shannon Mitchell with no outs and the potential tying run on first base in the fifth inning. The junior righthander protected a 1-0 lead, retiring the first two batters and, then sent cleanup hitter Meghan Ramsey on an intentional walk and then retired Kayla Cash on a popup.
Coach Dennis Nixon said "Tallwood outplayed us for five innings but didn’t take advantage of their scoring opportunities.”
Host Princess Anne plays undefeated Peninsula District champion Gloucester in Monday’s 3 p.m. Eastern Region semifinal. Regular-season Beach champion Kempsville meets Peninsula tournament runner-up Menchville at 1 p.m.
