Princess Anne & Cox Headed to Regionals
After compiling an 8-2 record in the Beach District, the Cavaliers advanced to the region tournament by winning a blind draw to break a three-way second-place tie with Ocean Lakes and Kellam. Princess Anne joins champion Cox in the tournament that begins May 16. Under Beach District rules, the first method of breaking a tie is head-to-head record. The three teams were all 1-1 against each other. Next is best record against higher-seeded teams. All were 0-1 against Cox. This triggered the final method. In September, all Beach District teams drew a number from 1 to 11, with the numbers placed in sealed envelopes. When the envelopes of Princess Anne, Kellam and Ocean Lakes were opened, the Cavaliers had the lowest number and were awarded the region berth.
The Cavaliers open region play at the Peninsula District champion, and Cox hosts the Peninsula District runner-up. The other region quarterfinals: Southeastern District runner-up Western Branch at Eastern District champ Maury and Eastern runner-up Granby at Southeastern champ Great Bridge
