Lenda and Wildcats Win Southeastern Title
Ian Lenda struck out five while walking two and didn’t allow a base-runner to reach third until the fifth inning to lead Great Bridge to a 5-0 victory over the Hickory Hawks in the Southeastern District tournament championship game at Nansemond River. Lenda got started early striking out four of the first five batters. The Wildcats played almost perfect defense as well.
Chandler Harris hit a two-run home run off Hickory starter B.J. Crook in the second inning and Brandon Shelton and Ben Lenda (Ian's brother) had RBIs for the top-ranked Wildcats (17-5).
Both teams will compete in the Eastern Regional Tournament Mondayat Old Dominion. Hickory (12-10) plays Maury, the Eastern District’s No. 1 seed, at 10 a.m. and Great Bridge faces Churchland, the Eastern District’s No. 2, at 4 p.m.
