Hazlett leads Raiders past Eagles 14-7 in tourney
The Raiders defeated the Eagles 14-7, in the first round of district tournament play, throughout an evening of solid rain. County moves to the next round of tournament play Monday, May 15 at Briar Woods.
Becky Hazlett led with six goals (one assist), followed by Allie Mercer with 3. Molly Griffin scored 2 and had one assist; Maria Chopivsky, Brooke Hewartson and Ginny Burke each contributed one goal.
While everyone struggled with slippery sticks, falls in the mud, and sometimes blinding rain, both teams held great composure and played hard.
Goalie Lauren Corcoran had 1 save, and goalie Megan Patlen had 3 saves for the night. County defense did a great job shutting down the Eagles' offensive cuts and, along with the midfielders, taking advantage of opportunities to intercept the ball.
Brooke Hewartson earned the game ball for her 3 assists, 3 interceptions and solid offensive play.
